AI Writer is the content generation sidebar that appears inside the WordPress editor and admin area. It connects to your agency’s AI Hub to generate copy using pre-approved templates, your brand context, and your agency’s configured AI provider.
Depending on how your agency has set things up, AI Writer may already be configured for you if your site is connected via Site Sync. Check the AI Writer tab in ToggleWP settings to confirm.
Step 1: Enable AI Writer
- Log in to your WordPress admin.
- Go to ToggleWP in the admin menu.
- Open the Manage tab and enable AI Writer.
An AI Writer tab will appear in the ToggleWP settings.
Step 2: Connect to the Hub
Open the AI Writer tab. If your site is already connected via Site Sync, you may see the Hub connection pre-filled automatically. In that case, click Test Connection to confirm it is working and skip to Step 3.
If you need to connect manually:
- Under Hub Connection, enter the following details provided by your agency:
- Hub Site URL — the full URL of the agency’s hub site.
- Hub Username — the dedicated sync user created for your site (for example,
wat_ai_acmecorp). - Hub App Password — the Application Password paired with that username.
- Click Test Connection.
A successful test confirms that AI Writer can reach the Hub and is authorised to generate content. The connection status will update accordingly.
Step 3: Add Your Brand Context
Brand context helps the AI tailor generated content to your business. Under Brand Context, fill in as much detail as is relevant:
- Company Name — your business name.
- Company Description — a short description of what your business does.
- Target Audience — who your content is written for.
- Brand Tone — the voice and style you want (for example, “professional but approachable”).
- Keywords — key terms or phrases relevant to your business or SEO goals.
This information is sent with every generation request and used to personalise the output. It is not shared back to the Hub.
Step 4: Choose Where AI Writer Appears
Under Show AI Assistant on, select where you want the AI Writer sidebar to be available:
- Editor screens — shows the sidebar only when editing posts and pages.
- Dashboard — shows the sidebar on other admin screens.
- Both — shows the sidebar everywhere in the admin area.
Individual users can also set their own preference from their WordPress profile page, which will override this global setting for that user.
Using AI Writer
Once connected, a sidebar panel appears on the screens you selected. From the sidebar you can:
Templates tab – Browse and search the full library of content templates. Select a template, fill in the required fields, and click Generate to produce content. Once generated, use Insert to push the text directly into the editor, or Copy to copy it to your clipboard. Click Regenerate to get a fresh version.
Chat tab – Use the free-form chat interface to ask the AI anything. This is useful for brainstorming, answering one-off questions, or generating content that does not fit a standard template. Chat is only available if your agency has enabled this feature.
History tab – Browse previously generated content. Your generation history is stored locally on your site and is accessible to logged-in editors.
Creating Local Templates
If you need a template that is not in the Hub’s library, you can create one locally. Local templates are stored on your site only and are not sent to the Hub or other sites. To create one, open the template library, scroll to the bottom, and use the option to add a new template.
Token Usage
Each generation request consumes tokens based on the length of the input and output. Your agency sets a monthly token allowance for your site. If you reach the limit, generation will be paused until the allowance resets or your agency increases your limit. Contact your agency if you regularly hit your limit.
